18. The Princess and the Frog

When: Evening, any season

Theme song: When We’re Human, or Down in New Orleans

This is just a fun movie with a lot of bright Southern flare. For the first part of this date, either check out a local restaurant known for New Orleans/Cajun food, or cook your own. Homemade gumbo (of course, with a splash of tabasco) and beignets could be fun to make. Afterwards, hit up a local jazz club. It’s fun because odds are you’ve never really been that big into jazz or visited a jazz club, but this gives you the perfect opportunity to try something new. If you happen to be lucky enough to find a place that specializes in New Orleans-style jazz, or even one that’s featuring a bluesy/Southern jazz performer, good for you! Louis the alligator would be pleased with your evening.

By the way, this is DEFINITELY the best scene in the whole movie:

17. Brave

When: Daytime, nice weather

Theme song: Learn Me Right

Merida is the princess with guts, which she demonstrates partly through her love of archery. Channel your inner Merida and take archery lessons. As another option, in honor of the beloved Angus, you can go horseback riding together. Or shoot, maybe both - your choice! Don’t worry, you don’t have to eat Scottish food, that’s pretty rough.

16. Monsters, Inc.

When: Evening, any season

Theme song: If I Didn’t Have You

Part of what makes this movie so funny is how human-like the monsters ask. They go out for dinner, drive cars, and all that jazz. Just like Mike and Celia, go out for a sushi dinner. Hopefully you won’t find a small child in a gym bag under the table. In honor of the “Put That Thing Back Where it Came From or So Help Me” musical that Mike and Sully created, go see a local musical production together after dinner.

15. Cars

When: Daytime, nice weather

Theme song: Life is a Highway

In honor of the newly opened Cars Land, here’s a date idea for the movie. Split the cost of renting a convertible - something fun and impractical, with plenty of space to let your hair flow in the wind. Plan out a day trip through the nearest-by wilderness drive, and enjoy the scenery. Make sure to bring along some snacks and a great road trip playlist.

14. Tarzan

When: Daytime, nice weather

Theme song: You’ll Be In My Heart. But really, any of the Phil Collins songs from this movie, because they are all fantastic. Strangers Like Me? Perfect. Son of Man? Beautiful. The more Phil, the better. Oh, and Two Worlds! Okay, I’ll stop.

Tarzan loves to introduce Jane to a whole new world, filled with tall trees and rushing waterfalls. Relive the magic of Jane’s discovery and go hiking together. The best hike would be one that includes a thick forest, so as to simulate Tarzan’s jungle. Of course, for the more adventurous couples, you can try and find a hike that includes some cliff jumping opportunities along the way. Don’t forget to let out that signature Tarzan scream as you jump into the water.

13. The Little Mermaid

When: Daytime, any season

Theme song: Part of Your World

Ariel loves her collection of knick knacks from the human world. Explore some knick knacks for yourselves and hit the antique stores nearby. Each piece tells a story and has a personality. Take the time to think about who might’ve owned that old desk or jewelry box, or even ask the shop owner what the most interesting pieces are. Some are funny, some are beautiful, some are both in a really weird way. You’ll be surprised by how much you can learn from the little things.

12. A Bug’s Life

When: Evening, nice weather

Theme song: The Time of Your Life

This one may take a little patience and planning, unless you live in some strange place where the circus is a permanent attraction. If not, find out when the circus is coming to town and buy tickets. Hopefully the performers will be humans and not bugs, it might make the show more enjoyable. After the show, enjoy a candlelit dinner picnic at a park or in the backyard, and try to catch some fireflies.
